Take a lesson from an instructor. You are not going to be able to teach yourself or give yourself the confidence to progress, you need a coach. Just go take a 2 hour lesson, trust me, a lot of snowboarding and skiing is training your brain to do what it does not want to do. You need someone who can explain these techniques and who can analyze your movements and teach you how to improve.

You need to be trained how to fall properly, that is probably the most important lesson an instructor can give you.

Sorry but its not as good of a excercise as you may think.
Also it is very important wear a helmet. I probably would of had a few concussions by now if i didnt wear a helmet
also get professional help when I first started snowboarding they helped me out alot and in 3 lessons i was hitting the lifts on my own. it is not a easy sport to learn but once you learn it it is alot more fun than skiing. when you snowboard it is easier to do tricks than skiing so if you really want to showoff to your colleagues i would go with snowboarding. also do not get a cheap board try to go with about a 200-250 dollar board but it will only last 2 years befor you will need something more advanced
i hope i answered your question
